St. Matthews

We came across this small church out in the country near the Blue Ridge. It is too small to maintain a congregation, but a group of local residents are dedicated to maintain it as a historical building and a community asset. There were a couple of guys with ladders finishing up their day's painting when we stopped. They were very friendly and gave us a short history and a tour of the inside.

Welcome to all. I began blogging Retained-Images in 2004 at It is gone now.

I adore these small churches of quite simple wood. This one becomes integrated splendidly into the greenery of the landscape

Really, it is a jewel. That this place continues to be taken care of is a good news.
