The Jon Purves is a BIG tug - 149 feet (almost 50 meters). She was built in 1919 as an ocean-going tug, and was purchased in 1956 and moved to the Great Lakes. In 2003, she was donated to the Door County Maritime Museum (in Sturgeon Bay WI). More than 27,000 volunteer hours were invested to bring the tug back to her glory days of the 1960s.
I find it interesting that officially the boat is referred to as "she" even with a male name. She is open for tours, though not during the hours were passing by, so I had to be content with shore-side photos.
